I was born and educated in Zimbabwe, and will graduate as a Designer for Textiles from Glasgow School of Art in June 2009.
Much of my work during my time at college has been led by the principles of investigation by drawing, followed by design work which can be used commercially within the textile and print industry.
I gain a huge amount of satisfaction from the drawing process itself, tending to create prolifically, using mainly oils on large paper to express elements of a surface, plant, building or landscape, documented by photographs. The colours, textures and shapes captured are then pared down, multiplied and manipulated to create viable designs.
Subject matter has been varied, from investigating the potential of photographs taken from a decommissioned airbase, to exploring the colours and motifs of art nouveau flowers. I would like to move towards greater exploration of my own background as an African, and will be developing ideas which have a grassroots African appeal.
